Alan Seid
I grew up bilingual and bicultural in Mexico City, Mexico. This afforded me the opportunity to be an insider of two cultures – but also an outsider.
Welcome!
In other words, having access to two distinct cultural worldviews at a very early age gave me theĀ perspective that there is always more than one way to look at anything; always more than one way to solve most problems.
At 16, becoming sensitized to ecological, social, and economic issues, I realized that I could be part of the problem or part of the solution; I chose the latter.
I also realized that lecturing or preaching was not enough. I had to change my life and lead by example.
I determined to research — and if needed, develop — best-practices for how to live more harmoniously with each other and the planet.
At 18, I realized that I had more to give than a life of conventional 9-to-5-till-you-die, and resolved to figure out the money-time-work equation so that I could be of service in a big way and avoid wage-slavery.
At 21, I began following the steps in the Financial Integrity Program detailed here and in the book Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. This is a process that leads to creating a relationship with money that is clear, empowered, non-stressful, and purposeful — all through investing awareness & consciousness into our personal relationships with money.
By 27, I had enough savings to embark on a seven-year self-directed period of intensive research and learning.
It was during this time that I:
- became a Certified Trainer in Marshall Rosenberg’s process called Nonviolent CommunicationTM
- acquired my Certificate in Permaculture Design
- took lots of classes with Wilderness Awareness School
- participated in many meditation courses and personal development seminars
- researched and visited intentional communities and learning centers
- studied Dynamic Facilitation and conflict resolution
- was given permissionĀ to teach the 8-Shields Model
- immersed myself in Integral Theory, focusing on Integral Ecology & Sustainability
- conducted a search for our dream property, which we bought in 2002
- served in many different volunteer positions, including Board President of a national nonprofit, Chair of the Sustainability Committee for the local Economic Development Association, and member of a county government-appointed citizen’s advisory committee to formulate a 20-year plan for our region — gaining valuable skills along the way.
Since then my passion has been to work with people and organizations who are committed not only to their own growth and development, but also to leaving the world a better place than they found it.
